The skin and glycolic acid

Glycolic acid is the most common of all the alpha hydroxy acids.
Glycolic acid peels give you a smoother, brighter, and clearer complexion by sloughing off dead skin cells, and they reverse the process of photo-ageing by increasing the production of collagen by fibroblast cells. The peel also help erase fine lines and wrinkles.
It works by exfoliating the top layer of the skin while simultaneously eliminating dead skin cells and excess oils that can clog pores. Within a few weeks of regularly using glycolic acid products, your skin should begin to appear  smoother and healthier. Fine lines seem to disappear, and your complexion appears more even. Glycolic acid products may cause mild tingling when first applied, but the sensation is rarely uncomfortable, depending on how sensitive your skin is.
As the dead cell layer sloughs off, your skin may appear slightly drier than normal. Once the new, smoother looking skin comes in, your complexion will appear more youthful and vibrant.
Manufacturers usually combine it with anti-irritating ingredients in a mild formula for home use, normally in a concentration of 8 to 15%. Products can be used twice a day, morning and evening, unless directions are otherwise. You can find them as cleansers and moisturizers. However, if you have oily or acne-prone skin, make sure your other facial products are non-comedogenic and non-irritating.
As professional peels in clinics, concentrations can go from 20 to 70%. Normally you need to undergo a series of treatments, weekly or monthly according to the peel concentration.
