Sleep well

On average we spend a third of our lives in bed so choosing the right duvet and pillow is essential. If you are in need of a good night's sleep but are confused by duvet fillings and perplexed by pillow support, here is a quick guide to help.

How to choose the right duvet?

The first decision to make is the tog rating and finding the right tog for your requirements. A tog is a measurement of the amount of warmth a duvet will provide; the higher the tog, the warmer the duvet.

Three essential points to consider:
  1. The temperature outside. The season: summer, winter or in between.
  2. The temperature inside. How warm do you keep your bedroom?
  3. Your natural temperature. Are you warm or cold when you sleep?
Warm classification:
Getting the right tog is important as it will affect your comfort and sleep. Below is a guide on togs and what's suitable for each season.

Cool: summer 4.5 tog
Warm: spring and autumn 9 tog and 10.5 tog
Extra warm: winter 13.5 tog and 15 tog

An all-seasons duvet is flexible and adaptable for different temperature conditions. This combines a 4.5 tog summer weight and a 9 tog spring/autumn weight which when joined together, form a winter weight, giving you the right duvet throughout the year.

How to choose the right filling?

Duvets and pillows are split into two categories: natural and synthetic (or man-made) products.
Natural duvets and pillows are filled with feathers and down. They are soft, light and help to keep warmth through their breathable properties. The more down there is, the more luxurious it is, as the down traps more air than feathers creating a duvet that is warm but lighter than air.

Synthetic duvets and pillows are filled with man-made fibers which are easy to care for and long lasting, making them highly practical and non-allergenic.
