Vin d'Oranges

Makes 2 x 500ml wine bottles

Ingredients:

750ml fruity rosé wine
100ml vodka
100ml brandy
1 vanilla pod
1 large or 2 small cinnamon sticks
200g caster sugar
3 large Seville or bitter oranges
1 lemon

Preparation:

Pour the wine, vodka and brandy into a large (3 litre), sterilized jar.
Split the vanilla pod in half and add to the jar with the cinnamon and sugar.
Seal the jar securely and give it a good shake to dissolve the sugar into the alcohol.
Wash the oranges and the lemon and pat dry on kitchen paper.
Cut the fruit in half and then into 5mm thick slices.
Add the sliced oranges and lemon to the jar, seal and shake again.
Leave the vin d'oranges in the fridge for about 1 month, giving it a good shake every now and then.
Strain, decant into pretty sterilized bottles and label.
It will keep, decanted, in the fridge, for 2-3 months.

Tips:

If you can't find Seville or bitter oranges, you can use ordinary oranges and use slightly less sugar.
