Makeup tips for mature women

  1. Lining your lips can create a more defined shape and prevents bleeding of the lip colour. Also, filing in with the pencil increases colour depth and helps it last longer.
  2. As the shape around the eyes "softens", more defining may be necessary. Try keeping the intensity on the upper lashline (with smudged shadows or liners) and a bit less so for the under-eye area.
  3. There's no need to over tweeze, but pay more attention to the removal of extra-long and/or unruly brow hairs.
  4. Try using a concealer that is spot-applied with a brush, instead of an all-over foundation, for a lighter, fresher look.
  5. Make sure all products (shadows, brushes, etc) are blended well and graduated (with the exception of the lip liner) to keep the face from looking harsh or stiff.
  6. To give an eye a "lift", try turning your liner (in liquid or pencil) up at the corner. Make sure to curl your lashes well, as this can give a significant lift to the eye as well. On the under-eye area, either forgo shadow or use one several shades lighter than your liner. This can also give a significant "lift" to the eyes.
  7. Mature skin needs to be well hydrated. Less is more for makeup, but not applying enough can leave the older client looking bland. She needs more color in her lips and eyes, but it must be tasteful and soft.
  8. The concealer and color corrector help brighten dark shadows under the eyes and firm sagging skin, which is a common problem for mature-skinned women, and diffuse the appearance of crow's feet. But concealers must be applied with a light hand. Too much can make you look older than not enough.
  9.  Always look for moisturizing lipsticks for a fresh finish. As you age, skin becomes much drier, especially on the lips.
  10. Use shades with a subtle sheen, but nothing frosty or glittery.
  11. Neutral shades that aren't overdone work best for aging eyelids. Sweep a soft beige hue on the eyelid and add a slightly deeper brown into the crease.
